HIA Forum, the Northern Region29 June 2008, The Park Hotel, Chiang Mai
The Northern HIA Forum in Chiang Mai provided an opportunity to discuss the HIA development direction to solve negative health impacts in the North. There were participants from academicians, public health officials, community leaders, NGOs and Local Administrative Organizations in the forum. The forum agreed that HIA is an important tool for social leaning process in order to develop health public policy for the North, especially migrant labour policy, free trade policy and economic corridor between Thailand and our neighbors, urban development, water management policy, and natural disaster preparedness from global warming. The essential steps in HIA development in the North are:
a) the development of HIA northern network,
b) the methodology and data-bases for HIA, and
c) the training and capacity strengthening for local
leaders and local administrative organizations.
