HIA Forum on Cross-border Impact of Mining Project in Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS), 20 August 2008, Chiang Mai
The forum was organized by Regional Centre for Social Science and Sustainable Development (RCSD) to discuss to about the cross-border impact of mining project in Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS).Two case studies, Boxite mining in Vietnam and Potash mining in Udorn Thani, Thailand was presented with the question on the roles of civil society and RESD in this policy. Later, lessons learn from HIA in three mining project in Thailand was explained and discussed by Dr.Decharut Sukkumnoed. The forum agreed that HIA can play a key role in shaping mining policy and protecting human health . The possibilities of HIA research collaboration were discussed, including the participation of HIA 2008 conference, the training workshop at RCSD, and the expert exchanges in HIA in mining policy and project. The forum was ended with the good hope for the co-operation of HIA developments in the south-east Asia region.
